Locally, there was a guy with a bit of a track record trying to adapt a
Nissan, I think, V6 or V8, but never got anywhere with it. Others have tried
to go somewhere with automotive diesels.

I seem to recall the old VW flat four air-cooled being the king of the
homebuilts.
Maybe because I misspent the early 60s working for VW?
