I think you hit the nail on the head. My laymen's suspicions all along tells me
that genetics is the largest part of the equation,
but they don't want to publicize that for fear that the general public will
just say "The hell with it all, I'm doomed anyway"
or the flip side- "I can do what I want, I'm protected by genetics" and not
watch what they eat or exercise.
Many years ago my wife did a research paper that supported the belief that very
low cholesterol has a link to cancer.
So the aforementioned study that found that people with high cholesterol
actually lived longer also fits that cancer link theory.
