These 2 points are wrong, I'm afraid. You can save to pdf and print with the
current OS. I can only think that Ken has not updated to the latest iOS. It
might originally have been the case, but each function is easy to do now.
However, for the print function you will need to be connected to a wireless
network, as far as I can make out. I can't comment on the USD100 for business
use, but that would depend entirely on what sort of business you want to run
from a device with a 10" screen.
Andrew's point about its being a passive device is based on the premise that
all you do is surf the Internet or read emails. After a bit of practice I can
use the touch-screen keyboard quite easily, but I can also connect my Bluetooth
keyboard and type normally.
The iPad is a little computer whose functionality is enough to use as such,
although the filing system is at present obscure. I now use it largely instead
of my laptop at work for database work, graphics and documents. This morning,
for instance, I used it to brief my students and fellow staff on the weather
for today as the work network is down during the transition to a new system.
However, I make no comment about the wisdom or otherwise of issuing any sort of
tablet to students. It has always struck me that students should learn to
write and to use computers for more technical requirements such as research or
graphing, But then that might because that's what I had to do at school,
before computers turned up . . . :-)
