There was a small number of fatalities, about 10, and around 100 injured if I
remember correctly. A very large proportion of the city's buildings were
damaged. The earthquake was only moderate in strength but it was very close to
the surface, hence the relatively high level of damage. And sloppy Spanish
construction standards did not help.
