I use LR3 and PS/CS5 plus Portrait Pro Studio.
In Lightroom I can drop into PS temporarily to use specific tools that LR lacks
- Levels, layers and so on. I can also drop in and out of PortPro if I want
skin smoothing and to work on hair and eyes. Each time I do this, a new file is
created and stacked in the Lightroom sequence of images - 1 of 3, 2 of 3 and
so on so that the original files are not affected. very useful when I've
overcooked it.
Lightroom is for some most useful as a database for organising images, iPhoto
on speed. I often sit down to go through a model shoot of 2-300 images and it
is perfect for that.
Really useful tools - fast gradient tool (Graduated Filter) for correcting
lighting, the Clarity slider for a quick softening of skin and user created
presets. I have a bunch of presets I found online for free which create grungy
and Lomo style images with a click.
It has spot retouching tools which many like because you can brush an area and
then adjust a range of adjustments for that area, including exposure,
sharpening, clarity, brightness, contrast and sharpness. You can do the same
with the gradient tool. Imagine drawing down a dark gradient for the sky in a
BW landscape and then setting a slight dark blue tone for it. Really nice. And
you can stack gradients as well.
Couldn't live without it.
