Thirteen beatings for me--I'm responding to my own post...
Therefore, if a photographer likes to produce large-scale prints with
exceptional detail that draws the viewer in closer to the print, then
he/she will consider a wider-angle lens to be a "normal focal-length".
If a photographer produces mostly prints no larger than 8x10 inches or
web-display where the image is no larger than 5x7 inches on-screen,
then a telephoto lens will be considered a "normal focal-length".
If a photographer is producing 8x10 inch prints intended to be held in
the hand, this very well may be the ideal viewing angle-of-coverage to
match the angle-of-coverage of a "normal" 50mm lens in 35mm film
format.
