Obselete preposition - one of those archaic forms of which the murkins are so
fond, as with 'gotten'.
It went out before Dickens, i suspect.
Probably still current among Appalachian snake handlers.
Handy for Scrabble but.
(Oh, and that was 'fond' in the original sense).
