Apologies in advance, as I get the OM list as a digest, so I have to respond
to all the topics in kind. And I must say, the list has been interesting
the past week or so.
Chris, to answer your question, I only shoot jpegs. I don't like having to
fool around with RAW conversions, and for my purposes, a smaller jpeg file
is sufficient. Plus, if I'm shooting digital, it's for the convenience of
the medium; any additional time spent on PP is a waste of time, IMO (hey,
I'm not getting paid for this).
>Andrew and Nicholas
Sorry you're both having problems with the Panasonic, but is that with jpegs
or with RAW? I use RAW exclusively and I can see no problem, but then that
might be my lack of discernment :-)
Chris
Andrew, I'm still waiting for Olympus to announce a fast 12mm pancake
(possibly weather sealed?) to go along with their pro m4/3rds body that they
are supposedly announcing this Spring. Hoping it will be f2, though I will
settle for f2.8 if the performance is on par with the old OMZ 24/2.8. Would
also love a 37.5-50mm prime lens (f2 or faster) from Olympus. Yes a zoom
covering that range is more convenient, but I've always prefered primes.
Speaking of fast wide angles, I have to agree with you yet again, Ken. The
late copy of the OMZ 24/2 I had and sold after getting the 21/2 (thanks
Iwert!) is quite possibly the sharpest lens I have ever used. And it had a
couple scratches on the front element and was obviously well used. It was
comparable to the 45/2 Zeiss for the Contax G1 that I had (and again sold,
to help fund the E-P2 and Panny 20/1.7).

Chris Crawford, great portrait of your grandfather. The 50/2 is one of
those lenses I'd love to own, as I think it would make a great companion to
the 21/2 and 100/2, but it's as expensive used as one of the new Zuiko
digital 50/2 macros! The 50/3.5 I have is already an excellent lens; I use
it a lot for "product photography" (i.e. taking pictures of gear I'm getting
ready to sell). The bokeh is surprisingly good up close, though far away it
can be a bit "nervous"--just like the 50/1.4.
And just for fun, here's my current favorite film setup:

OM-4T w/ OMZ 28/2, love it!
