I don't know about your scanner. Mine has a calibration function that corrects
for light source aging. Since i don't in
this case know what 'etc.' might be, I don't know about it.
With a scanner that compensates for aging, one should be able to compare scans
done over time to see if the target has
changed.
Scanning the target the first time produces a profile that defines how the
scanner as a whole responds to colors. Later
scans should vary only by changes in the target.
