Yes, DEET is nasty stuff on plastic camera bodies and rubber focus
rings. You can always tell what used gear was owned by a wildlife
photographer.

It is also bad on human bodies. concentrations of over about 10% are to be 
avioded on bare skin, 100% only on clothing.
