His pictures of it are terrible. He doesn't show the front glass. He
thinks it is a zoom lens. Tempting price and may be ok, but I'm afraid
it might not be a good purchase. I always stay away if they won't show
me a picture of the glass. On the other hand you could find out for $60.
Everything you say is true.
That being said, I would add that some of the best deals I've made have
been when there was either a bad picture, a bad description or even no picture
or description, other than the title. If I would miss the $60 when it
came time to feed myself or pay my bills, I really don't need to be buying the
lens irrespective of the kind of deal that is being offered.
This one looked to me to be the kind of deal I might ask a few questions
about as it appeared to not be obviously abused and the inspection sticker
seemed to be intact and with the printing still visible. I might send this
inquiry, " Can you see any scratches or flaws on the surface of the lens
when you take both the lens caps off? When you look through the lens, with
the caps off, is there any cloudiness or other distractions? Does there
appear to be any damage to the outside of the lens?"
For those who know me, you know I am not like the guy in the diner who just
happens to have an opinion about everything. I've bought and sold a great
deal of gear on and off this list, eBay, Craigslist, APUG and privately.
It has helped to feed my habit and to facilitate others doing the same.
The Universe rewards risk takers! Look at anyone you know who has traded
in their steady paycheck for the opportunity to work for themselves and
been successful at it . . . or not. My experience is that many of those who
"fail" get right back up and give it another go. Often times out of
"failure" is spawned success. Many of my friends are folks who, like me, have
gone from trading their time for someone else's money, to owing their own
business. This rewarding road is seldom the easiest road . . . just a more
rewarding one.
OK, off the soap box, on to somewhat more camera gear related topic and
then on to finishing a portfolio project upon which I've been working. This is
still about risk. Yesterday I responded to an ad on Craigslist in a town
about 200 miles from where I am for the next few days. Crappy photos, poor
description and worth the call. Price was right for what was being
offered in reasonable condition. Kit included an OM 2, motor drive 1 and 18V
grip, 50mm f1.4 (low number/not replacement for one sent to live with AG),
75-150mm Zuiko, 310 Flash and BG, 2X of some sort, hard metal case. Not
interested, yet? Oh, there was also a 21mm f3.5 Zuiko. Had a brief
conversation
with the seller, called up a friend whose business was a few blocks away
and had him go pick it up for me. It is still sight unseen, however the
amount of money at risk would not kill me and I imagine it will turn out to be
an exceptional deal. Risks? Yes. Rewards? yes. Thank you, Universe.
Our fear is often what stops us from enjoying life fully. Fear will
always be with us. I faced a big hunk of fear last night, acknowledged it and
moved on. The results made the fear laughable.
So, back to the project and the next challenge.
