On an OM-1 your findings are easily confirmed. In auto-aperture mode the
reading shown by the meter does not change by a full stop when opening up
to f/1.4. What does this mean? It's not the amount of light hitting the
meter that is changing - remember, we're always metering wide open. So
Olympus has designed the lens so that the travel of the aperture lever in
the lens mount is less than one stop when going from wide open to f/2, to
keep the metering accurate.
