[OM] E-1 exposure counter question

Hi -

I just got an 8 GB CF card (Sandisk $28 at Costco this month) 
and popped it into my E-1.  Set on best quality jpeg, ~3MB per 
picture, the exposure counter read 1999 pictures remaining.  It 
still reads 1999 after I took a few shots.  

Will the E-1 start decrementing the counter once there is space 
for fewer than 1999 pictures left?
