My expectation is that selecting "Optimize for quick removal" would stop the
disk cache being used for that particular USB disk. This would degrade
performance somewhat, but ought to mean that when the disk activity light
stops flashing, all updates have been written to the disk. However, Jim's
experience is at variance with this, so who knows what is really happening.
