I've got to chime in on this eventually I suppose...
I got one knowing you had this problem. I liked it so much that eventually
I got another. I can find various kinds of noise in all sorts of places if
I look for it, but printing images shot up to iso3200 at sizes up to
18inches (haven't tried bigger) I just get beautiful prints. Better than
anything I've had before.
I rarely raise exposure though; my most usual workflow involves shooting
aperture priority with -2/3 compensation, and then importing files to
lightroom with a standard setting of zero black point, 30 fill light, -10
saturation and a moderate s-curve. Usually all that's needed then is to set
the black point and make some local dodging/burning type adjustments which
usually allow me to REDUCE the overall exposure. I only have to increase it
if I really messed up the exposure and didn't notice at the time.
So... From my practical point of view it's close to perfect.
I'm not trying to argue with anyone here - just posting my own experience.
