Hi Dawid -

The rodenstock is pretty much optimized for 1:1, according to them.
Honestly, I don't really know which is better as I have neither. But, logic
would dictate the Apo-Rodagon is probably better (at least on paper.) Likely
either would perform to satisfaction and be hard to tell apart in most all
situations, esp. black-and-white, I'd think. As usual, the Oly stuff is well
made no doubt. If you can find one at a reasonable price, I'd say go for it! It
would be interesting to see what test results you get vs. say the 90/2 or
others.
If the Oly 80/4 was really a world-beater it would be in more demand, I'd
think. Their high-demand macros are the 90/2, 20/2, 38 (maybe)... the 80 and
135 certainly have demand but not like those others. Not that that means a
whole lot, but it is a factor certainly.
It's too bad MP didn't test those macros, as it would have been interesting to
see how they performed.
BTW, the Summicron 50/2 is both better and worse than Oly 50/1.8, depending on
where in the frame you measure and at what f-stop. At least according to modern
photo tests. (relavent tests posted on http://www.edsawyer.com/lenstests/ )
Don't get me wrong, I love Oly. But I still am open to admitting there are
other more modern lenses that are probably better in some regards. It doesn't
diminish my love of Zuikos to admit such, though. ;-)
For your project, you should track down and use some Kodak Tech Pan if you
really want the best that black-and-white has to offer. Let me know if you need
some, I could probably spare a bit of 35mm of it.
