YAQRBHD - yet another quick release and ballhead discussion...
I feel lucky that I started with arca swiss plates from the beginning.
Athough no system is perfect I find these plates are like UV filters
for the bottom of the camera. I particularly like the long plates for
macro lens, which allows for focusing by adjusting distance.
But switching plate systems can get costly, more than just replacing
the heads, the plates themselves cost. However, they tend to last
forever.
Acratech has been coming out with some interesting stuff such
as the new GV2 ballhead. I started with a regular arca swiss ballhead
but the tensioning would always jam, the weight was 3 pounds, and
I abandoned it.
