Hi all,
I had the opportunity to "touch and try" the E-P1...at Olympus Belgium.
It's a nice camera and a new opportunity to use our beloved Zuiko. We
are probably not "the target": during the presentation of the New Pen
the "Belgian Boss" make a little history of the introduction of the Pen
(the original one...) and he said that with that introduction the
percentage of "Ladies" using Olympus cameras jump from 2% to 20%... he
doesn't say it's a "Lady Camera"...but when you look at the camera,
especially the white one, it's clear that an effort has been made to
have a product different of other cameras...and the look is something
important in this new product, the leather body jacket and the leather
strap add more style to the already nice object...
But it's a nice object which made nice pictures and with the adapters we
could use our fine lenses: there is even two way to adapt Zuiko lenses,
with the OM adapter and with 4/3 adapter, plus the OM>4/3 adapter, I've
checked with an adapter with the chip for focus confirmation (from
jinfinance) but it doesn't seems to work...it was a rapid
test...must be confirmed. I had only my Zuiko 100 f:2 with me it really
a nice combination, probably one Iwert could use if he have the
opportunity :)
I've also tested the Digital Zuiko 7-14 and 50-200 but only inside, I've
tested the Zuiko outside in manual focus, the sun was bright but the
focusing wasn't too difficult, but I guess it could be more difficult
with other lenses, my 500 mirror was at home...:)
One other interesting use of the new Pen is the video HD, you could zoom
or change your focus during your video recording, and the stereo sound
is really good...imagine some macro lenses (Zuiko of course) on the
camera...and I imagine the butterfly aficionados of the list using it to
record some nice sequences (limited to 7' duration per sequence but it's
already a long time...)
Of course I've tested the "original lenses" the 14-42 and the "already
famous" 17mm...they are both good in my opinion and I've made some
images to track the Chromatic Abberation...
you could judge by yourself on some of those images at
http://styleolympus.fotopic.net/c1717514.html
There is an HDMI output...but I've asked, you could only use it in play
mode...:( so no chance of an "ersatz of an electronic viewfinder"...it's
of course the greatest limitation for me. Already a good camera at this
moment, but a little bit expensive for me even if I was really impressed
by the video mode.
I have raw images but at this moment not yet the occasion to use them.
The availability of the camera is expected in the second half of
July here in Belgium.
regards
marc
