If you go into Disk Management and choose Action=> Rescan Disks, that
may recognize it without a reboot. How you get to Disk Management
through Control Panel varies with version of Windoze (Part of MS's
compassionate efforts to keep your mind sharp.)
When I turn on my eSATA "toaster" or change drives on the internal SATA
headers, the system doesn't notice the change until I force a rescan.
