Is it possible to leave the route back to the outside world open, but
cut off access to places you don't want it to go? That way it could
return from whence it came. I ripped out a bathroom and sealed the
lavatory waste pipe with a thick plastic bag. A week or so later there
was a smell of drains caused by a hole gnawed through the bag. There
was no sign of the visitor from below and a hard plastic cover stopped
further expeditions. My guess is that at this point it just wants to
get home.
