You're right. Part of reasons I gave up digital as you said "spend as much
every 24 months
on new second/third-tier digitals and lenses. Just the cost of one
"Photoshop Upgrade" can go a long way towards picking up a used Leica lens."
My private, I'd rather to spend my time/money for taking shots, printing in
darkroom more than to upgrade my digitals continuously.
