It would appear that the hot shoe and PC socket are not isolated from
each other. Whether flash or transmitter, firing the camera just closes
a switch so either device can complete the circuit and fire. With
transmitter alone there's probably 3 volts there provided by the
transmitters batteries. With the flash there's 250 volts there which
must be driving back into the transmitter which can't take it.
However, with the Viv 283 off the camera and fired by the receiver the
receiver is also getting 250V. The receiver is apparently tougher than
the transmitter. I suppose you could use a safe-sync to isolate the
flash from the hot shoe. But it it was me I'd solve the problem by
getting the flash off the hot shoe. Put it on a stand next to the
camera or on a camera mounted bracket and fire it via another receiver.
But I have in the back of my head that there may be a problem trying
to trigger a receiver that's only 6" away. Can't recall where I heard
that. Dunno, never tried it myself but you can answer the question
yourself in a flash. :-)
