I know why you are so happy with your 16-35 MK1 as you ONLY use it on a 1.3x
cropped sensor :-) Most lenses perform very well at the center, problem
mainly happen to edges and corners. The MK II has big improvement on the
edges at the wide end - the focal length where people paying high price for.
The sample variation of AF lenses seems much bigger than the old MF lenses.
I consider a lens with manufacturing problem when I see uneven resolution
across the frame, I don't mean center and edges, I mean left and right side.
I see variation on a DZ11-22, a DZ 14-45, a Tamron 24-135 (very serious at
the wide end) and a Tamron 28-300.
For the OM lenses, my 21/2 and the my new purchased 65-200 has some minor
problem, other than that all the OM lenses I tested have even performance on
a FF. BTW, I can't remember any real complaint on sample variation on the OM
lenses.
