First of all, thanks for looking and commenting.
As for the substance: yes, in the end I take the pictures the way I
want to. But one of the reasons for posting them and asking for
critique is to get ideas for improvement. If I feel strongly about
some aspect of an image, whether color vs. monochrome, cropping or
whatever, then I stick to my initial idea regardless of what others
say. But in this case, once I had a look at the B&W version, I agreed
with Chuck and others that it was better. When I took the picture, I
did not make a conscious decision that it should be in color. But of
course with digital cameras color is the default, so sometimes an
image that would work better in B&W is presented in color just because
it is the easy option. That was to some extent the case here, and so
in a rare case, I was prepared to actually act on the suggestions.
