I formatted my xD card in the camera to be sure that it contained no files,
and tried it again in the SanDisk reader. As I expected, it was recognised,
and the Finder showed it as a volume 'NO NAME' (and incidentally no
directories/folders). BTW, the example I gave from System Profiler was
wrong, it was for a CF card. The xD card shows up essentially the same:
