Yes, you are right, I have overlooked the last part of your email. I was
concentrated on the ISO part, to me DXO is totally confusing. We use ISO as
reference to make exposure, it is suppose to use grey point as reference,
not highlight clipping point. The noise of the camera should also base on
this to measure, that's when your subject is properly exposed the noise
level of the image.
This is the first time I visit DXO site, it need some time to digest. I
believe you were referring to the SN ratio, E520 was higher than G1 but in
dpreview G1 looks better in noise control.
I'm not sure which test is better representing the cameras noise
performance, G1 has weaker AA filter so a sharper per pixel quality,
together with the stronger noise reduction on Olympus E520 so it look much
softer than G1 at high ISO.
I'm more interested on the ability to do NI (NeatImage) without in-camera or
RAW NR. I found NI do much better than the Canyon and Olympus NR. Even the
5D II is soften too much at ISO3200 with DPP NR, while the lost with NI is
neglectable.
