This from a C*non service tech.  The Canon Powershot S2 IS shutter 
blades (and I bet others) are made with a plastic that is impregnated 
with oil to make them slippery.  In some cases (?) the oil bleeds out of 
the blades, and makes the shutter jam like a good ole RD.  ........(john 
walking away, mumbling)......nice design.....
