Chris' viewpoint is exactly what I'm thinking here. Honestly, I do
appreciate zoom lenses the older I get. Fifteen years ago I'd carry two or
three cameras with different lenses on each, but the same film loaded in all
of them. Nowadays, I shoot enough people and event photography that having
a capable zoom lens is a Godsend.
It is true that the weight and balance of the 35-80 isn't "ideal" on an OM
body. But by the time you add winder or motor-drive and flash gear, you're
over the top anyway. I did experiment last night with the OM-3Ti, Winder-1,
35-80 zoom and the T45 flash. Yowza--they were in the same neighborhood as
my E-1 rig on the Stroboframe. If I want "low impact", I'll stick with the
24/2.8 on an OM body loaded with Ilford Delta 400.
