Well, don't fret about that omission. There will be an in-depth review of
that lens once I've had a chance to do more than just fondle it. Honestly,
all I've done is clean the glass, put it on the OM-3Ti and "shadow shoot"
with it around the house. But from my early observations, this will be an
excellent "event photography" lens which will probably set up near-permanent
shop on the OM-3Ti.
In a way, I was hoping that it would "replace" a lens or two in the
collection. The only one that even comes close to being threatened, however,
is the 35 F2.8. The 50 Macro is safe as is the 100mm. As well-corrected as
the 35-80 is, I do note some distortion which may preclude me from doing
away with my primes for exacting work, such as photographing buildings and
interiors.
The 35-80 does handle and feel very much like the 14-54. Unfortunately, I
just can't seem to locate that Aperture ring on the 14-54. But my point is,
that I have the impression I can shoot the E-1 with 14-54 and an OM with
35-80 side by side without needing retraining between shots. (according to
the bottle, my hair-color is blond)
As crazy as it sounds at first, I'd actually consider backpacking with just
the OM-3Ti and 35-80 zoom.
