Paul's right. I just confirmed it with my OM-4T and a T20 and an F280. You
don't need to cover any contacts for the use of slow shutter speeds in
manual mode...if the camera is in manual, you get the shutter speed you set.
TTL does not work in manual on the OM-4T, though it does on the 3Tisince the
3Ti is manual only but offers TTL auto for flash! I think the original OM-3
did not have TTL flash.
