Interesting that you should say that the 285 in auto mode over exposes
when closer than about 2 meters. I'd have to go digging through
Crockett's flash DVD's but IIRC he has a general warning (for all flash
units) not to use fill flash closer than 6 feet. He doesn't say why
that I can recall. It might be that these thyristor units can't quench
fast enough for a low power output up close. Anyhow, that's my
partially educated guess.
