Speaking of small cams, ran across this:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/kidding.shtml
Well assuming the G10 is not that dissimliar from the G9 (seems to be
the case AFAIK) the major comparison image was right at the sweet spot
of the lens in light not challenging the lower dynamic range of the
sensor.
Moose's A650 has the same sensor/lens as the G9 and he had given that
digicam the Moose seal of approval . He reviewed the market at the
time in an insightful Moose Monday. I read it carefully and voted with
my wallet.
We'll see what Oly has in store and I hope Andrew will have some
comments soon. The larger sensor should
help substantially as the G9 has some trouble in contrasty conditions.
Would be nice to have IS with a compact zoom and then be able to change
clothes into a 12-60 or DZ 50 macro as required---SOLD in my book when
they come up with that. It would be a superb travel/horse digicam.
Perhaps the time has come.

The announced first Oly micro 4/3 camera looks like it will be
innovatively small.
