I am in the process of selling my Canon EOS gear, I put them up for very
good (for me, i.e. substantial) prices, and I seem to be getting them
sold- have received a lot of interest in the past couple of hours,
tomorrow three expensive lenses will probably sell.
Why? This damn OM system! I feel a big imbalance in my photographic
technique between using my Mamiya / Linhof Technorama, and my Canon
Digital Gear. And the OM body just feels "right" for the type of thing I
do - more so than any other 35mm body I've used. I will miss the big ol'
machine gun - and the Canon 1D MkIIN has, hands down, the most
spectacular image quality of any 8MP camera.
In fact, I have been using my 1D MkIIN for snapshots more than anything
else lately - which is just crazy! So, I figured, I am getting into B&W
film with OM gear bigtime, and I will get a high-end P&S (e.g. Canon
G9/G10) for snapshots / documenting stuff, such as my car restoration
project.
Once I receive funds for the sold equipment this will fund the trip my
OM gear will make to John for CLA (my OM-1n really should be smoother,
and the meter is flakey, even though I do incident metering 90% of the
time) as well as some serious expansion of my OM gear.
I am not even going to ask you if I am crazy: I guess I am doing this
because I *can*, and because digital SLR will be cheaper and better when
I get back to it in the future.
Somehow, after coming so close to losing my (and my beloved's) life with
the attack in our home a week+ ago, I am a bit radical, and this is part
of it. It's fun to try different things - as a hobbyist, I have that
luxury. In the meantime, I am also going to spend more time with the
ones I love, instead of processing RAW files.
(although I can see the Darkroom changing that :-)
For anybody who has read this far, does anybody have a 38mm f/2.8 Macro
lens they want to sell? I am definitely going to pick up that
auto-bellows I saw last week, and I will want some higher magnification
than what the 90/2.0 provides on the bellows. I am sold on the fact that
the 20/2.0 is maybe a bit extreme for the moment.
And lastly, I really do want an OM-3Ti some time in the future. For most
things, I do see myself preferring the beautiful simplicity of the
OM-1n, but the metering as well as the 1/2000th shutter speed are both
very desirable to me for the type of photography I do (macro, and
shallow DOF in daylight).
Is there anybody who is thinking of selling theirs, and what would the
going rate be? I know how collectable these are, but they are also not
unobtainable surely.
wishing you all a great day,
Dawid
