Yes, if the image did not degrade that would clearly violate the Heisenberg
uncertainty principle as all the pixel locations would then be known. I have
read on a Fred Miranda forum that there is a special custom setting on the 5D
(gee Chuck, read the manual!) that can prevent this effect, but Schrödinger's
cat then dies instantly, and not many people dare implement this mode. I will
defer to the physicists on the list for more detailed explanations.

Wrong on the 5D. It doesn't help. All my images start to degrade as
soon as they're viewed on the back of the camera. Those images never
look as good as what I know I took. I believe there are not so subtle
losses in as little as a few milliseconds.
