Same here -- I just tidied up some old backup CDs burned in 1996-1998,
and they all read just fine. Heck, all but one of the _floppies_ from
back then were fine, too.
They were stored (individually) in plastic bags (because I had them
sitting around) and mostly in fairly dark places, but otherwise nothing
special. All labelled with permanent marker, various brands (no-name,
Maxell, etc).
