Why should the vignetting be unexpected? The image circle of this lens
is only designed to cover the 23.6 x 15.8 mm of the APS-C size sensor
and not the 24 x 36 mm of your film body. Actually, I'm surprised that
the vignetting isn't worse. It's simply not designed to do what you're
trying to do.
