I seem to recall John saying that this process was not all one way, with
some parts changing to plastic, then back to metal. Ther are places
where proper plastic can perform better than metal.
I think that back then Oly was seriously committed to quality and
reliability, and had earned a good reputation. All undone by the OM-10,
of course, sigh...
