I really can't see how this is a feminist issue given that it is not  
only a standard engineering description for just about any two items  
that 'mate' but does not imply that one is superior to the other in  
any way - or even human for that matter.  The only basis for  
objection that I can imagine is that it is a general sexual reference  
and may be found offensive by an extreme prude.
