Hi Ian.
I am a list member for a very long time (ten years?) but I have been
recovering from some personal sufferings, and lately I have moved
house too. I have been too busy to actively participate in the list
discussions, but I will in the near future.
Airports have very precise instruments, because air pressure (and its
tendency) are very important parameters for flying. The instruments
are being calibrated on a regular basis against high grade
meteorological instruments of the national weather centres. Often the
airports employ instruments owned by those weather centres too. Most
airfields do have more than one barometer, so a suspicious reading
would be noticed immediately. You can really trust them!
BTW, I think that the reading from Kloten will be fine for you to
calibrate against on a day with little pressure gradient (little
wind).
