Many years ago a young man I worked with discovered the same thing.
The Bosch fuel pump in the VW box was much, much cheaper than the same
item in a MB box. It was also amusing at the time that a VW came
stock with the rear window defroster "wires", while they were a $600
option on the MB. Gives a little window of insight into the mark up.
Much as I liked my Leica M3, it was hard rationalize the rebadged and
remetered Minoltas as pricey Leica SLRs.
