John:
We have a 20 year old MB as a fine weather summer driver. MBs are not cheap to
repair (both labour and parts). General advice in North America is to avoid
dealers like the plague and use competent independents. Trick is to find them.
I suspect that the AMG stuff will only add to repair costs. Secondly, there's
always a risk that a tuned version has been driven harder, just because.

Subject: [OM] OT Mercedes Benz
Doing my bit for the planet....I am thinking of changing my car...top
of the list is a Mercedes Benz C36 AMG... 3.6L, 5 speed auto. 286BHP.
It is 10 years old with 125,000mls, but mileage should not be a problem. This
car is a collaboration between Mercedes and AMG racing division and is a "bit
special"
I can just about live with 27/32 mpg. for the sort of mileage I do (approx
7/8000 per year) although petrol at £4.50 a gallon - and rising hurts!
What I really want is advice regarding Auto transmission..how do people on the
list rate it. I must admit I have next to no experience with auto..always
driving a manual..and wonder how I will cope? Comments appreciated.
