I don't think it would work very well. Rubber cement is normally
applied in a very thin layer to both bonding surfaces and allowed to air
dry before attaching the surfaces under pressure. It's generally pretty
easy to simply roll the rubber back on itself, wrap a strip of double
stick tape around the exposed barrel and then unroll the rubber.
