I'm sure we've all seen the examples of extensive stitching that produces
these sort of results. Examples posted on the web that include blow-ups of
small sections show the amount of detail that can be resolved in huge sizes-
license plates and such. So, it is certain that, while massive megapixels
aren't necessary, they can have advantages. I'm certain that at what many of
you consider closest viewing distances, the prints from one of those
processes would look distincively different, and most would prefer the
results. In the spirit of HDTV, older subjects may differ.
While it is certain that fine 30x40's have been made from small digital
files, nothing is lost by having greater resolution. Otherwise, we wouldn't
have been shooting OM's, but would be happy with Instamatics.
