Laptops maybe. The current machine is actually at least one third
larger than the machine I had at the time (an IBM XT-286). But that
doesn't matter since the desk was never designed to hold the computer.
The computer has always been on the desk or off to one side. It was,
however, designed to hold an Epson dot matrix printer inside a sound
insulated drawer along with its box of paper fed from underneath. When
the first of a couple lasers arrived the paper shelf was removed to make
room for the larger box. The rest is desk surface, pull out partial top
drawers that can serve as writing surfaces or book rests, a filing
drawer and the thing that everyone needs... a custom sized 5-1/4"
diskette drawer. But it still works for CD's. :-)
