Good points Garth.
Everyone repeat after me: "It is just a tool."
While I have been a staunch OM user and defender for years, I do have a
hard time understanding the zealous defense of Olympus (or any other
manufacturer for that matter) 'at all costs' attitude I see here and
other places. (Of course I have a hard time understanding religious
zealots of any kind!) The camera and it's lenses are merely tools,
nothing more, nothing less. I like having good tools that are well
suited to the tasks I want to perform, which is why I wound up with the
OM system so many years ago. The fact that Olympus does not currently
make a tool that suits my needs, while disappointing, is not the end of
the world. I have found other tools that are doing the job, just as
others here have. Many have found that Olympus does make tools that suit
their needs. That is great.
Look at it this way, do you own just one screwdriver, probably not. In
fact most of us probably own a variety of them, from a variety of
manufacturers. Same thing with cameras. Different horses for different
courses so to speak. I think when one can see the equipment as a tool
for accomplishing a task, then you can get past a lot of the emotional
turmoil associated with selecting and using them. You will probably also
find it easier to evaluate the need for a new camera and select one
appropriate to your needs.
