Thanks Dean and Chuck. It seems that the id shots on many sites are
pretty crummy, but I didn't see where one could offer a better one,
except in a separate gallery on one site.
I'm not sure why it's so hard to get good shots. I've certainly seen
some good insect shots here. I took only four shots of it on the moss to
get that one.
Then it crawled up my pant leg, which is not as natural a background,
but the shot of the stonefly itself is great. This is the best of five
there. The next one is a bit big on screen, but the wings just don't
look as good smaller.

The next one is one of three taken on the top of a walking stick, but
suffers from motion blur. Doesn't look too bad at this size, but no bigger.
So out of a dozen shots, three keepers that are better than the samples
on the web, so it doesn't seem that hard. When my dad was a grad student
at Berkeley, studying Ag. Chem and Entomology, he took me at least a
couple of times to the room where they had thousands of dead insects on
display, an important collection, I think. I wonder what happened to
that and other University collections. It would certainly be easy to
make excellent id photos from them. They don't keep moving like those
stoneflies. :-) Probably been done, but not freely available on the web?
