I'd third (after Charlie and Chuck) the ID on Graham's insect: it's
a stink bug.
The "cute critters" Moose shot are the giant stonefly (Pteronarcys,
probably species californica). Many trout fishermen know them as the
"salmon fly", named because of their salmon-pink underside. Avid
fishermen travel thousands of miles to hit the hatch of this stonefly on
rivers like the Madison. Moose's shot of an adult salmon fly,
