May be an ACRS/Lightroom default thing. ACRS in PS has it's own
defaults. You may, of course, set and save your own.
Like camera makers, all these software makers have to deal with tyros
who might give up on it if the picture doesn't look sort of normal when
it first pops up.
If you have ever cruised forums like some on dpreview, you will be
familiar with people bashing products for working properly, but not
holding their hand for them. They think there shouldn't even be Paul's
'de-suck' button, but that it should be done automatically, without them
even having to click on a button.
As a result, the defaults are generally not what a more knowledgeable
worker will want.
Come to think of it, something similar may be at the root of the
difficulties some folks have in gaining skill at using PS. Sometimes an
image looks lots worse than the original part way through a process.
Expecting each step to be an improvement can be an impediment.
