Hi Rand,
The 330 viewfinder is essentially identical to the 500's. You can use
your ME-1 magnifier on it.
What I suspect is the great advantage of the 330 over the 500 is the
availability of Live View B not just for macro shooting but for any
circumstance with any lens where it might be useful to have a 10x zoom
capability on the LCD to check and adjust critical focus.
Would this be helpful for you if your eyes are not what they used to
be? I think so, absolutely.
For me, AF is just not as reliable as I want it to be. By that I mean
that while AF certainly works, it is never certain to me that it is
grabbing onto precisely what I want it to grab onto. Live View B has
vastly improved the precision of manual focusing for my purposes. For
the majority of the work I do with the 330, I don't use AF.
I suspect the best viewfinder in the E system is the E-1's. Perhaps
the 300's is better than the 330's. But on the 330 it doesn't matter
because when in doubt I just use LV B.
