Back in my TV reporter days, I arrived at two murder scenes before the police,
since I spent a lot of time in one of our mobile units just cruising around
with the scanner on. In one instance, the killer, the husband, had killed both
himself and his wife, and in another, I walked up to the front porch where a
man was sitting with a shotgun in his lap. Luckily for me, he handed it over to
me and looked most sorriful. He had been sentenced to 12 months in jail for
DUI, which meant he'd serve only 6 if he didn't misbehave, but he killed his
wife because he was afraid she'd run off with another man while he was
incarcerated.
Interesting times. I was pretty fearless back then. I know better today.
